CCW Certification

How to obtain a CCW    |    About the Class    |    Next Steps    |    Sign Up Now

What is a CCW:  The ability to lawfully carry a concealed hand gun.
Why have a CCW license and why I carry a gun: Because I can't carry a cop.

How to obtain a CCW
  1. Take the concealed carry class. A minimum of 12 hours, including 2 hours on the firing range with practical experience. Complete a written test on "The Basics of Pistol Shooting", a publication of the NRA of America. All is provided by a certified trainer. Receive a signed NRA certificate.
  2. Complete an application.
  3. Apply for a permit at the sheriff's office where you reside or in an adjacent county for a fee of $55.00. The permit is an additional fee of $45.00. If an applicant has been an Ohio resident for less than 5 years, a federal criminal history check may be made with an additional fee.

What you will need
Students who are seeking their CCW certification will need to bring a pistol to the class.  Free gun loans are available to students who are only taking the handgun safety course and are not seeking their CCW.  You will also need to purchase a single-day shooting permit for the Spring Valley Shooting Range.  This permit will allow you to participate in our live-fire instruction and is a requirement for the CCW.  The single-day permits cost $5 and can be obtained from Walmart or Drugmart.  There is also a annual range permit available for $20.
